4 Cleaning Tips To Make Your Microfiber Furniture Last

We all want furniture that lasts. If we’re part of busy households that include children and pets, then long-lasting furniture must also be stain-resistant and durable. Microfiber furniture offers all three qualities.

Unfortunately, despite these great qualities, microfiber furniture still needs some help if you want it to last. You will need to clean it regularly, especially if you notice a stain. The following four cleaning tips will make your furniture last longer.

Check the Manufacturer’s Fabric Care Tag Before Cleaning

Some people tend to panic when a stain appears on their furniture, especially if it’s new. This panic can cause them to grab any cleaning supplies on hand and attack the stain without a second thought. While you have good intentions, this cleaning attempt can damage your furniture.

Before cleaning, check the manufacturer’s fabric care tag. You will see different letters indicating how to safely clean the microfiber material. “W” means you should only use water-based cleaners. “S” means you should only use solvent-based cleaners. “SW” means you can use either water- or solvent-based cleaners. “X” means you should not use any cleaners, only a vacuum or brush. If you can’t find the tag, assume that you can use solvent-based cleaners.

Break Out the Vacuum

Even if your microfiber furniture isn’t vacuum-only, vacuuming is a great way to keep the furniture looking great. If your vacuum has an upholstery attachment, then you can easily vacuum your furniture every time you vacuum your floors. We recommend doing both once a week. If your vacuum doesn’t have an upholstery attachment, use a stiff brush to loosen dirt before vacuuming with the hose.

Spot Clean as Soon as You Notice a Stain

Vacuuming won’t prevent or treat those potentially panic-inducing stains we mentioned above. If you notice a stain, clean it up as quickly as possible. Some people use baby wipes to quickly scrub away a mess. Others must use rubbing alcohol, depending on the type of microfiber couch they have. Spray a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto the stain and then dab at it with a clean cloth. You must let it dry before you can determine if the stain is gone. If it’s not, repeat this process.

Create a Deep Cleaning Schedule

Other than vacuuming and spot cleaning, you should also create a deep cleaning schedule for your microfiber furniture. Regular deep cleaning will keep it in good shape for longer.

Use a ratio of ¼ cup of dish soap for every cup of warm water to create a microfiber furniture cleaner. Depending on how many pieces you own, you may need more or less cleaner. Use a soft brush to apply this cleaning mixture, then wipe it off with a microfiber cloth. Let the furniture dry after the deep cleaning. Repeat this process every six to twelve months.

These four cleaning tips will make your microfiber furniture last so you can enjoy it longer. If you’re looking for new microfiber furniture, but are worried you can’t afford it, Grand Furniture can help. We offer no-interest furniture financing, so you can take home the furniture you love.
